I'm concerned I'm not getting paid enough money, how can I be sure?

This is a complex question. Lets break things down into two sections; 1. Direct to DSP digital collections and 2. CMO/PRO collections.

Digital collections

The economics of streaming is widely commented on, but digital royalties we are very confident that we’ll extract more money out of the music & social services than any alternative service by virtue of the fact that we're integrated into the Kobalt licensing framework. This means you get the benefit of the same licensing arrangements as some of the worlds biggest song writers, and the fact that they're direct arrangements means less middlemen, so more money in your pocket.

In terms of ensuring we have everything we need to collect your money, we generally use the same International Standard Recording Codes (ISRC's) that are embedded into services like Spotify to spot your royalties from the DSP usage files, but we stand the best chance of finding the ISRC if the data you deliver matches how you released the song into the world (Title & Artist), so be careful to ensure you're being consistent.

PRO/CMO collections

The first to do is check your registrations. Are all of you songs delivered to KOSIGN? Are all of the registration statuses in your key markets 'Registered'. You can also usually check registrations directly at your local PRO to make sure everything is in order.

If everything appears in order, but you've recently seen a dip it can be tricky to understand why as CMO/PROs typically don't share their payment rules and methodology. If you’ve seen a big drop in your writer share income directly received from your local PRO, then you should reach out directly to ask there's been any errors in the affected periods.

2. Try to be consistent in how you deliver information across recordings and publishing.
3. Double check your registrations.
4. Ask your local PRO directly.
